Going to RenFest Texas with my D40- Which lens to use? Use my S95 as backup?

Title pretty much says it all. going to the texas renfest with my D40. Got my choices between kit 18-55VR and the kit 70-200VR. Which would be the better lens to have on and stay on? I'm concerned about how dusty it may be there, so I'm looking to avoid doing multiple lens changes. I'm hoping to get shots of the craftsman, stage actors, and general people there. I'm not going in costume. I also have my s95 I can use a backup. What's the optimum way to use both?
