I'm thinking of getting a Fuji X10

I have a good DSLR and some great lenses but I am going to be travelling a bit over the next few months. I already have to take a laptop and some other technical kit with me for work, and I could do without the extra weight of my E3, even if I only bring the 12-60mm with. Plus a lot of airlines are really snippy about what you bring on board. If they say one bag - then one bag it is. Even if second bag is just a camera bag.
I pondered about M4/3 for a bit. E-P1 and GF1 very tempting, but really too close to what I have, and still not really going to go in a coat pocket with the standard zoom lens.
So I have started looking at the Fujifilm x10. I am not really convinced by the retro thing that is going on with Olympus and fuji - I was brought up on old film cameras, I lived with them and really dont need my new cameras to look like them. So frankly I was turned off by the looks of the x10 initially. However the more I think about it and the more photos I see that people have taken, the more I think that its just what I want.
Like Olympus, fuji has great jpegs straight out of camera which saves processing time and space when on the road/air. Plus the pictures actually do seem to have that Fujifilm look, and I used to love their film stock.
And finally I like nice machinery - solid metal things with buttons and good tactile response, yeah I know I said I want to save weight, but I still dont want a little plastic thing. I like kit that is over-specified.
Anyone here lived with an x10 for a while? I understand that they are a bit idiosyncratic but I am sure I can deal with that.
Cheers
