New TV time... any Panny Plasma ST50/GT50 owners?

So the convergence chips blew on the old 4:3 RPTV in the living room. The stalwart has finally died. A moment of silence....

SO it;s new TV time. I want to keep my pricing close to $1000. Givne the viewing distance I am looking at something in the 55" range. All I really care about is picture quality, I don;t give a whoot about 3D or internet apps, I know whatever I buy will probably come with them, but the chances of them ever being turned on are practically nill. But it doesn't bother me there and turned off.

I would like to stick with a panny plasma unless there is a super compelling reason to go LCD. It looks like the st50 and gt50 both have the Infinite Black Panel which reviewers all say looks really good.

So, anyone else have either of these TV's? I can't see any real reason to get a GT over an ST (THX certification is not something I care about). Or should I be looking at something else?

For comparison I have a 720p 50" panny plasma in my bedroom that has to be like 4-5 years old by now, when I bought that I hung it on the wall, plugged it in, turned it on, and left it like that ever since and have been totally happy with the picture. So I'm not an uber prosumer who is going to nitpick calibration setting or pick up on minute dithering difference (whatever the heck that even is) when it comes to TV's. If this looks as good as the TV upstairs I'll be happy. I'm a little worried about the buzzing some people report, but I figure there's no way around gambling on that, if I buy a set and it buzzes I'll take it back.
