Video Camera for home/kid use

I'm currently shopping for a camcorder to take videos of our new daughter. My budget is in the $300-$500 range, and I want something that will be able to do decent quality in low light. 1080p is also a must. Internal memory is optional, but I would like to have two card slots (preferably some flavor of SD) if there is none. An EVF would be great, but I haven't been able to find a camcorder in that price range that has one.

Basically what my research has gotten me is this:

Panasonic HC-V700MK - 16gb

This has gotten pretty good reviews, and seems to be good in low light. It was on sale for under 400 as of last week, but I guess that deal has expired as it is now listing for $450. Keeping my fingers crossed that they mark it down during the holiday shopping season.

Canon HF M500
http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Canon-Vixia-HF-M52-Camcorder-Review.htm

The M500 has the same sensor as the M52 that I linked to, but a little bit less fluff. It has two card slots instead of internal memory, and no wifi and such. It has a native 1080p sensor, so low light performance is superb. It's actually on sale for 400 bucks right now too.

So that's my conundrum. I'm not sure if anyone has either of these two, or has another model that they would recommend. Honestly, the differences between the two cameras is pretty slim, but the price for extra batteries are atrocious with Canon. It's a hundred bucks for a Canon long life battery, and although third party solutions are available, they don't have Canon's special chip in them to report the charge level. So, you're basically flying blind on battery life, and would probably have to get two packs so you can change early and ensure you don't run out. The Panasonic on the other hand supports third party batteries, and you can get a charger and two packs for around 45 bucks.

At this point I'm kind of leaning towards the Panny for the batteries, but would be open to other suggestions in case I've missed something.
