A quick primer on shooting video?

I keep getting approached by bands and asked if I'd shoot a video for them.
I always turn them down because I have no video experience and they'd be served better by someone else.

However, I've noticed the absolute plethora of used "camcorders" (or lack of a better word) on CL, going for pennies on the dollar, and I thought to myself, well why not grab one, and do some video of stuff (my Xevoz toys, for example) to get some experience and simply for my own edification, so I'd know what's involved.

Now I know the basics, hold the camcorder steady, zoom in slowly, etc, but what about loading the footage into a LightRoom equivalent (what IS the equivalent for video footage anyway, in the PC world) and applying filters? I'm sure it's not just that easy, is it? I mean I can't apply a sepia look to the whole thing with 1 click can I?

Additionally, assuming a budget of 100$ for a used "camcorder" (what's the proper term these days anyway, since things are no longer shot on film) what should I look out for, feature wise?

Advice, suggestions, etc always appreciated.
