Baking gfx card killed by psu

Ok, not 100% sure on the second bit. Forget the fact that I should just buy a new one, itll happen eventually, but for the mean time...

Ive had an 8800gts for aaaages. I also abused the poor thing. Didnt clean it for like 5 years in a constantly smokey house...Anyway, i eventually did when i started to get mad artifacts on the screen when playing games, and found an utterly obscene wall of dust and tar inside. Anyway, around the same time, my 5 year old computer started not turning on occasionaly, before eventually the psu just totally dieing. So i replaced the psu. Within a few weeks of that, my graphics card followed suit and died. Weirdly, my monitor still works fine, and is plugged in through it. I can also play most quality videos. And some ooold games, say unreal tournament, but its jerky. Low fps. But yeah, if you look at the device in device manager it says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". Also, on startup, there are vertical green and red lines (always in the same place) during the Dell bios screen.

So yeah, im presuming i bought a crap psu (40-50 quid from a not very reputable looking local independent computer parts store) and somehow that has fried my graphics card.

Question 1!
Am I right in thinking that? Seems the most logical conclusion given the timing of things. Unless its just coincidence with my graphics card finally giving me the middle finger!

Question 2!
I have read here and there of people fixing dead graphics cards (generally the 7/8/9 series geforce cards) by baking them at 200c for 8 mins. Im happy to give it a go, seeing as its dead anyway, but only if its worth a try at all lol are the cards they are getting results with through that happening for a totally different reason to whats wrong with this card?

Thanks in advance for any help! Oh knowledgeable ones.
