WiFi IP Camera With Night Vision... producing standard video/audio stream for VLC etc

Hi everyone

This is proving to be way more complicated than it should be.

I'm looking to get a wireless (though a wired ethernet option on it would be good) IP camera with decent night vision to use as a baby monitor. Quality and reliability should be a bit better than those DECT radio devices I've seen.

The problem is actually being able to access the stream. Most seem to offer a web browser based stream that needs some nightmare ActiveX (Seriously? We'll be in 2013 in a couple of months!) or Java plugin enabled.
Are there any that also just let you access a standard video AND audio stream using something like vlc?

I quite liked the look of the D-Link DCS-932L, night vision quality looked good on some sample vids I've seen. But they've obfuscated the stream address. Some people have had inconsistent success with vlc, specifically needing to have a browser session logged in every x minutes to keep the vlc stream alive. Also that's MJPEG streaming only, no audio.

Is there anything out there that exposes an honest, standard, video and audio stream to the local network?

Most seem to offer a cloud-based viewer with applications for smart phones which is all good added bonus stuff. But I'm just looking for a (W)LAN based stream, hopefully in a standard format, accessible by an open source media player.

Anyone?

Cheers, B
